Good Night and Good Luck...responce

The movie Good Night and Good Luck... was an interesting movie to watch. Though it was in black and white something I am not use to it kept my attention, for longer than I expected. It was interesting to see how television was received when it first was introduced to the world. I could only imagine how people saw this box that showed pictures, and to my surprise I was correct. Today most people own at least one television. My family is not exception there is actually one television in every room in my house. Television is important to me it’s one of the first of many electronic devices that I turn on every morning. Sometimes I feel like I can’t wake up unless the TV is on, well there are several other factors that can override that feeling but baring that TV is important. Also I was able to see in the movie some of the most outstanding piece of reporting I have ever seen in my life. This was done by Edward R. Murrow and CBS news; he took on a Mayor who labeled his “enemies” as communist and had them charged with treason. Murrow used his own words on a live interview to prove to the Mayor that he was wrong. In an interesting twist Murrow did not like television he thought it would “brain wash” the American citizens into well a potato. To boot his original reporting was done on the radio. To some up the movie was a joy to see and I would love to see it again.

   Annie Lee Moss was born August 9, 1905 and died January 15, 1996) was a communications clerk in the US Army Signal Corps in the Pentagon and alleged member of the American Communist Party. She was believed to be a security risk by the FBI and her superiors at the US Army Signal Corps and was questioned by United States Senator Joseph McCarthy in his role as the chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The highly publicized case was damaging to McCarthy's popularity and influence.

" WE CAN NOT BE MOVED" OCCUPIEED WALL STREET

The movement called occupied wall street has took to the streets after being taking out of their home in Wall street, they have split into groups. The first group is right now at Wall street taking back their home meanwhile the second group is in the MTA subway system in all the major stations. Such as Jamaica/ Parsons Blvd. in queens where I live. I think this is a message to the world that this is a major movement and " we can not be moved"

Chapter 6 review

The growth of America has caused many aspects of the economy to grow. As this happens journalism also has grown as well. During this time there were a lot of powerful people who take advantage of this new growth, to make more money in this growing time.  Much like today there is always someone wanting to make more money, and with this greed come journalism. This injustice will be exposed through the opinions and facts of journalist. In the second half the 19^th century there has been times when big business will take advantage of things for example the Standard Oil Company that made an illegal deal with Rockefeller Corporation. This was exposed by a journalist named S.S McClure he uncovered how Rockefeller would give Standard Oil special transport and lower rates to ship. This made it hard for other oil companies to keep up. This was called muckraking I understand the term it was to rack up the muck that big business create. This even happens today with the Leman Brothers and how they embezzled millions of dollars and crashed their company, when they did crash they took the jobs to thousands of employees. Then proceeded to borrow tax money from the government to pay debts that the company owes, then shortly after the CEO of the company revived millions of dollars in a “bonus” but no one can explain why. Soon the muckraking began by local journalist to seek the truth. Soon after the CEO was forced to step down and from there another took over. Much like the past and today journalism kept power to the people and also to keep other small business alive.  

Class trip to Occupied Wall Street

Occupied Wall Street has improved since the last I have been there. They have become more than just a group of people; they grew into a self-made city. I was impressed by who much it has evolved into what it is today. From the outside it looks like a bunch of people living in tents, and sleeping bags. This changes when you take a closer look, they have made a medical ten with substantial medical supplies and medical staff also a make shift kitchen. With a full kitchen staff to care for the hundreds of people that is the Occupied Wall Street. Walking through the camp is another story the smell of questionable substances linger in the air, mixed with the smell of well humans who have not taken a bath in a few months it’s hard to tolerate. The people have changed as well the person I spoke to named “Balance” he is “34” years of age, the reason why he is there is to make a difference, he claims that “ Occupied Wall Street is ground zero where things happen” he traveled from the west end to New York to be part of it. Though as vague as he was he seemed to be friendly, and glad to talk to anyone it’s refreshing to talk to a friendly person or it could be the questionable substances he is possibly on. I had a question to ask him and it was not on the list it was how you will deal with the upcoming winter? His response was he has plenty of military equipment from when he was in the U.S Army, so at least from him that should keep him warm and a cup of coffee won’t hurt.

Come one, come all, bring the kids too...Occupied Wall Street is now a family event

In a recent report by Fox Occupied Wall Street, has now become a family event. Reporters have seen an incline of children as young as 1 year old. In response to this the members of Occupied Wall Street has made Zuccotti Park more kid friendly, with tents and clowns to entertain the children. This incline is due to the incline of single mothers with children who support Occupied Wall Street and its cause. Being a single mom is hard enough but in the times we live in it makes it all the more difficult for one to raise a child.

Chapter 5 responce

As America moves into global expansion in the hopes of becoming a global power, journalism follows suet. The Spanish -American War was one of the least noted of the many wars that was waged but it had an effect on the people, well to me it sparked an idea to use the voice that journalism has to lead people like sheep. Journalism’s voice is meant for the people but that voice can just as easily be used to lead them astray. In order for America to expand it needed its people to support it, and journalism was used as its way to do this. The drawing by Frederic Remington of women being forced to submit to strip searches, this simple picture and a few other indents like the sinking of the U.S.S Maine by a suppose Spanish mine and the $50,000 for the person responsible for the sinking. With the outraged public the United States government responded the only way they knew and wanted to respond with war. The saying “history repeats itself” was right September 11^th 2001 was the most recent even that kind of tactic was used. With the pain of millions Americans calling for the heads of who, caused this event the government was given a “blank check” by the people this came about by posting in several papers what I like to call “who done it” posting. Eventually the Iraq war sparked and still to this day we still are fighting the war eight years later.  

Article response: Rallies Sweep the Globe Protest Ecomic Polices

Occupy Wall Street encampment in Manhattan has become a major moment across the globe. This is because all over the world there is always the “little guy” being bullied by the “big bully” and it’s about time that the “little guy” stood up. This new revelation started out very small then blew up in different places for example “In Rome on Saturday, a rally thick with tension spread over several miles” then in “ Chicago, about 175 people were arrested at about 1 a.m. on Sunday after refusing to leave Grant Park before the 11 p.m. closing time”. Though they are met with conflict by the police or other authorities of similar power, they still stayed strong and fought back. In New York they were locked in a bank lobby, the reason for this was to help control the crowds, in my opinion you don’t lock people hundreds of angry people in a small space; for the same reason you don’t lock and angry tiger in a cage and stick your head in its mouth. It won’t turn out well, this only came to create an problem like it did for one lady named Sandi Bernard “who is 59 and was visiting from Waldorf, Md. while wondering if she would have trouble making the 8 p.m. curtain call for “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” I am still wondering how this turn out will and what will this lead to? My hope is that Occupy Wall Street will change the way business deal with people and finally bring some respect to the middle class and the lower class.
